As hard as your teeth are, there are still times when a blow to the face or other oral accident can cause a crack in the tooth enamel. Even if a crack doesn’t damage the interior of the tooth, the damaged tooth enamel could still trap plaque and food particles, leading to a new area of tooth decay. To prevent this from happening, you should always seek timely treatment at Rock Rose Dental.

Sometimes a small crack can be repaired with a dental filling. However, most cracks require the entire tooth enamel layer to be replaced with a dental crown.

The process of placing a dental crown in Roseville, California, starts by having your dentist, Dr. Hoang Truong, remove all the tooth enamel with a drill. This leaves behind a post-like abutment that encases the pulp and root of the tooth.

The dentist will then cast a detailed impression of the area. This will be sent to our dental lab as a guide while the technicians custom craft your new crown. At the end of the appointment, your dentist will secure a hard, plastic, temporary crown over the abutment to protect it.

We will call you to schedule a brief second appointment when your new crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed and your new crown will be cemented atop the abutment.

If you have a cracked tooth, we invite you to call our Rock Rose Dental team at 916-784-3337 to have it examined, treated and repaired. Don’t let a cracked tooth upset your Thanksgiving celebrations!
